so I sent Alfred
and couple of my other "guys" to Walgreens to be printed
(by the way 19 cents + tax per 4x6 is pretty good deal, anyone knows cheaper places?)
just to test the printing quality
I went to pick them up after gym, so I had nothing but a few bucks, student ID, and my cell phone
*walks to the photo counter*
me: hi, I am here to pick up my photos?
guy working at counter: what's your last name?
me: xxx, X-X-X
guy: uh...is it "XXX"?
me: yes, that's me
guy: *grabs my envelope, opens it* so where did you get these pictures?
me: excuse me?
guy: like on the website or from comic book or something?
me: oh, no, I drew them.
guy: you drew them. *he gave me the look*
me: yes.
guy: like with color pens? *still giving me the look*
me: uh, no, I did it on a computer. I use photoshop (nvm SAI he wouldn't know anyway)
guy: *apparently doesn't believe me* hold on, I need to call my manager.
*so I waited for about 3 min*
*manager comes over*
guy: *to the manager* she said she drew these on a computer.
manager: *to me* you said you drew these? *he didn't give me the look at least...*
me: *again* yes. I did them on photoshop?
manager: do you have the originals of these?
me: ....what do you mean "originals"?
manager: you know, the digital file?
me: uh...it was uploaded to your photo website?
manager: we need to see the original file.
me: I...don't have it on me. (I thought the purpose of uploading was so I don't have to bring it -_-)
manager: yah...we can't give you these cuz it may be copyrighted.
me: ya but...I drew those.
manager: yes I understand. but we need to check.
me: uh.....so what am I suppose to do now?
manager: can you bring the original sketch?
me: ORIGINAL SKETCH?! (this is getting condescending now)
manage: ya, like the pencil sketch, so we know you actually did these.
me: uh...*checks pictures* I might not have all of them. (omg imagine if I did everything digital...)
manage: that's fine just bring a few.
me: ok I'll come tomorrow -_-
-----
I think this is an invasion of privacy
and I didn't know they can NOT give me the pictures.
do I not look like I actually draw?!
===============================================================
Today:
so I went back this morning with 4/10 sketches of the ones I printed
(some of them are too old and original sketch was at home, others was done entirely on computer)
the manager I talked to yesterday weren't there, and the person at photo counter was different too.
to say the least, I STILL DIDN'T GET THE PICTURES.
and worse, this time both the photo counter person and the manager were both very condescending.
I find yesterday's case funny because at least both manager and staff were at least respectful.
and I thought the manager requesting me to bring original sketch as proof was reasonable.
but today both were condescending outright, and I felt humiliated.
they even showed me prints of "other people who did the same thing", saying that they get lawsuits because they are printing these without "original author's permission".
apparently the original sketch was still not enough to proof I drew those.
how else can you proof a digital drawing is done by you?
I felt like I lost my artistic freedom to some intangible issues, and my right as an artist in general.
Why should I have to prove myself?
How can you explain to someone who doesn't believe?
I am very sad.
